Notes about the Web Site and Technology

08/27/2006 New Server  4 times as fast, 4 times the disk storage and 4 times the memory.
I just hope it proves as reliable as the old server which ran for 5 years with minor maintenance!
07/06/2006 ISP Change  Verizon refuses to upgrade service to the 400 customers in this complex.  The ISDN line was dropping 2-3 times a day.  Fractional T1 was too expensive.  On July 3, 2006 the service was switched to COX Cable (5 mb down, 2.5 mb out).  So far, so good.  Will soon have everything working again.
03/03/2003 ISP Change  Due to the paramount stupidity of CAIS/Ardent/NAS/COVAD, a change in ISP was required.   I hope everything is working again.
07/06/2002 Converted some pages to ASPX  First efforts with dot Net.   Converted a few pages to use the new architecture.  A re-write may be more precise.  It is different.
04/06/2001 Installed SQL2000 on the WEB Server  This was the last ver 7 instance running.  I tightened security, so some changes were required to existing software.  If anything doesn't work, please email me.  I don't believe any changes would have been required if I hadn't changed the logons.
04/05/2001 MSMQ sample page now works in Netscape  Since this is server side code, there was no reason it shouldn't.  I converted the VBScript to JAVAScript.
04/04/2001 Server Side Scriplets  These are light-weight COM objects that can be called by VB, C++, and even Delphi.  I repackaged the polling code into a server side scriplet.  Scriplets are defined using XML!   Scriplets can be used to implement behaviors in IE5.
03/11/2001 Remote Data Services and Shaped Cursors  Shaped Cursors can be delivered via the default RDS datafactory.  The sub-hierarchies can't be dynamically bound in a web page and they can't be updated automatically.   Bummer!
12/20/2000 MTS and out-of-process DLLs  While trying to get RTF and PDF report generation working, I discovered that the WEB User didn't have access to a flexible printer.  I needed a flexible printer definition to generate the report even though I didn't print to it.  After half a dozen ill-fated attempts at a solution, I parked the print generation stuff in MTS running under an administrative user.  An added advantage during test and debugging was that it could be replaced without stopping the web server.
