Association Directories

Many professional associations publish an annual directory listing their membership, the services they provide, and the general location they serve.  The directory is usually distributed to the members and often to interested non-members and institutions.  It often serves as a referral document, allowing agencies and the association secretary to match member-practitioners to clients with specific needs.

The directory should be compact, of typeset quality, and cross-referenced.

Compactness means it will be kept within reach of those who might use it.  Cost of production is also related to size.

The directory should project a professional image.  Legibility and proper arrangement of the elements contribute to this image.  With the wide-spread use of LASER printers, it is possible for most associations to produce typeset quality output.  Producing well arranged output is, unfortunately, beyond the capability of most report writers.    members  (5.5"x8.5")

To be useful, the directory should allow the user to quickly find that member who practices in a particular location with a special skill.    by city    by language    by technique

Using a combination of specially developed routines and off-the-shelf components, the directory software has evolved into a low-cost, user-operable system of publishing a specialized directory.

A professional society can publish a professional looking directory year-after-year for a modest initial investment.
